Men have separate rules for clothing then women do, there really is a such thing as Clothing Etiquette For Men. Black Tie: These affairs are special and most often tied to a good cause. If you are lucky enough to be invited to a Black Tie event then for Men, the back tie event means a single or double-breasted dinner jacket. A man can wear a black silk bow tie that looks distinguished and not something you pull out of the drawer. You want to make sure that you look sharp and that includes black dress socks and a nice pair of shined shoes. With this ensemble you are definitely dressed to impress.

Business Casual: This can be tricky since there is a term of dressing for business and dressing casual. In the event that you need something business casual you may want to choose something like a sports coat, it doesn't have to be a tux jacket. A blazer will do as well as a white or single color collared shirt or a button down shirt. A pair of nice slacks or Dockers, chinos or khaki's will do. This allows the businessman to be more flexible when they dress and they look sharp but not over the top. Stay away from blue jeans when dressing business casual, save it for the casual wear.

Casual Wear: There are many different ways to categorize casual wear. The first is Casual Dress and for men this would mean some type of sports clothing or swim wear that would fit in well with a BBQ or a pool party. Dressy casual means that the men will have on, trousers either long or short as well as a collared shirt and your choice of tie or without tie.

White Tie: These are formal events that happen a lot all over the world but not too often in the United States. The men would wear a long black tailcoat and a white pique bow tie or a military uniform if you are in the military.

When people say that they want you to wear formal wear, it means that the event is before 6:00 pm and men can wear a dark suit, tie and dress shirt. The informal event is something that takes place before 6:00 in the evening and men can wear a coat and tie if they choose to. The idea behind the clothes etiquette for men is dress appropriately and dress to impress. A man's wardrobe is one of the first things a lady looks at when looking for that special someone.
