How To Dress Appropriately For Work

Congratulations on getting that new job, you want to do well but you also want to look good too. There are some men and women who tend to over dress for work and then there are those who under dress. There is a perfect balance when it comes to dressing appropriately for work. You can argue that it depends on what type of job that you have but unless you are working a job that requires a uniform it doesn't really apply. When it comes to dressing for work, you want to keep the old saying in mind, Dress To Impress. This doesn't mean that you have to wear button up shirts that go up to your neck or skirts that are down to the floor. It means dressing conservatively where you look professional and not offending anyone.

When we say dress as to not offend anyone we mean when it comes to blouses for women, though men may disagree it is not a good idea to flaunt any cleavage on the job. For one, it is work place and secondly, some women may think that you are trying to get ahead based on your looks and your endowments and that is not the kind of work environment you want to work in. It is a good idea to look professional for work and by this we mean, if you work in an office environment, a nice skirt that comes just above the knees are appropriate and a pair of low to mid high heel shoes will work.

It is also not a good idea to cake on the makeup at work either, it is not a fashion show and you want to wear make up as you would your clothes with being a bit conservative. Try to cut back on the amount of perfume that you would wear also; less is more in this case.

For men, you do not have to wear a suit and tie unless the job specifically calls for it. In the event that it doesn't, a good ensemble to wear would be dress pants and a dress shirt, a nice pair of pants with a sweater or button down shirt. You also want to Dress To Impress and as we mentioned with the ladies wear less cologne and try not to wear pinky rings or gold chains into the work place.

Most places of employment will provide you with an employee handbook informing you on what you can and cannot wear when it comes to work. Make sure that you follow these rules; it could mean the difference in having your job and not having your job. Most places do allow for a casual Friday and this would be the day to wear less conservative clothing but still you would have to wear appropriate style clothing but on a more fun scale.

The work place is a place to work and make money, it is not a fashion show and you should dress appropriately since you may have an issue with someone who dressed like that in the office. Be respectful of others and they will be there for you.
